Defences, also called Defenders, Turrets, and Towers, are (usually) player-constructed structures that prevent attackers from reaching the base or end, or otherwise succeeding their mission, by blocking them and/or by shooting at them, or occasionally by triggering other defences to attack. They may or may not be invulnerable or have a set amount of health, but in most cases they can't be teamkilled or placed along the path of the attackers, or otherwise completely block the exit, though there are exceptions to these rules, as in the case of mines in some games, which can be detonated by allies or by the player's own weapons. In games with pathfinding, structures may also be used to create a maze for the attackers, with more intricate methods sometimes available at the player's discretion.
